A Professional Social Media Profile Is A Short Job, And The Level 3 Course Has You Build One Before Your First Client
From the FASTER syllabus: this article is taught in full in The honest route from scratch to qualified →

In short: Criterion D/617/8592 6.6 on the Level 2/3 personal training course asks a learner to create a professional social media profile. The course explains why a professional profile differs from a personal one: it bridges a trainer to potential clients, industry contacts and peers, shows expertise, credentials and what makes the trainer different, and keeps private life separate from the professional persona. It is tailored per platform, with LinkedIn for career achievements and Facebook for finding clients and building community. A new trainer can build it before the first paying client.
A profile you build before the first client
Plenty of people weighing up a switch into personal training carry one quiet worry: where the first clients come from. The exercise side feels like the fun part. Finding people to train feels like the part nobody explains. Criterion 6.6 of the Level 2/3 personal training course is where that part gets a small, finishable task.
The criterion reads "Create a professional social media profile". It is a piece of work you do during the course, and the course gives you the reasoning for it first.
What makes a profile professional
One of the things you learn on our CIMSPA-recognised personal training course is the difference between a personal profile and a professional one. The course describes a professional profile as a bridge between a trainer and potential clients, industry contacts and peers.
It shows three things: your expertise, your credentials, and the unique value you bring to the fitness industry. Personal profiles can carry casual content. A professional one is curated to build credibility and good working relationships.
It also keeps your private life apart from your professional persona. That is a relief for plenty of people: the holiday photos stay where they are, and clients meet the version of you that is there to help them.
One profile, tailored to each platform
The course does not treat every platform the same. LinkedIn suits your career achievements, your certifications and professional posts, and it is the place to meet other fitness professionals. Facebook is geared towards finding clients and building a community around your training.
So the same short list of facts about you, your qualification, who you help and what you are good at, gets written once and then adjusted for where it appears. That is quicker than it sounds.
Where a brand new trainer starts
Credentials are the easy item for someone mid-course. "Studying towards a Level 3 personal training qualification" is a true line on day one, and it becomes the finished qualification when you pass.
The unique value is the item people put off. A good first draft is one sentence about the person you most want to train and one about what you do differently. Everything else on the profile hangs off those two sentences.
Why it comes before the first client
A client checks you out before they message you. A finished profile means the first thing they find is a trainer who looks ready, which is a good deal better than a blank page and a promise.
The learning on the course is visual and interactive, with your own typed or dictated answers, so the profile is something you build as part of the work.

Frequently asked
What does criterion 6.6 ask for?
To create a professional social media profile. The course explains how a professional profile differs from a personal one and how to tailor it to each platform.
Do I need clients before I build one?
No. A profile shows expertise, credentials and what makes you different, so a new trainer can build one while still studying.
Which platform does the course use as an example?
LinkedIn, for career achievements, certifications and professional posts, and Facebook, for finding clients and building community.
Do I have to delete my personal account?
No. The course keeps the two apart, so the professional profile is a separate page that shows clients the right side of you.
